ICE Out of Our Faces Act: Make Them Hear You

This week, Mohr discusses  how Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) is using biometric data, including video surveillance, to track down people for arrest and deportation. Senators Edward J. Markey, Jeff Merkley, Ron Wyden and Bernie Sanders have introduced the “ICE Out of Our Faces Act,” a piece of legislation that would ban ICE and CBP from acquiring and using facial recognition technology. The act would also require the deletion of all data collected for use in or by biometric identification systems and allow individuals and state attorneys general to seek civil penalties for violations.

The ACLU has discovered several cases where individuals have been falsely identified and arrested when they happen to look like someone else. ICE and CBP agents are using facial recognition technologies to track, target and surveil individuals across the country.
