How to get involved with KGNU’s “One Small Step” toward conversation and connection

Now more than ever, it’s pretty much impossible for media outlets to be objective.

KGNU, for example, often produces and uplifts programming that many would call “left-leaning.” Democracy Now!, Alternative Radio, Counterspin, and our local morning news programming all uplift generally progressive voices with opinions and beliefs that many of you listening might agree with. Maybe that’s why you tune in – to hear the perspectives of like-minded individuals.

And that’s important to do, don’t get me wrong. The world is extremely divisive and it can feel really reassuring to listen to those that share your beliefs.

But at the same time, if we want to create a less divisive world, it can be really important to try and understand one another.

KGNU has big plans over the next few months to expose you all to different perspectives than you might usually encounter in your day to day.

We were chosen to participate in One Small Step, a project powered by the nonprofit StoryCorps. The project puts conversation at the forefront – not debate, but just a good old fashioned talk between two people who have differing political views.

KGNU’s Rossana Longo-Better and Sam Fuqua are the power duo spearheading the project, and will venture across the Front Range to host a series of conversations.

They both joined KGNU’s Jackie Sedley in-studio to describe the project in more detail, and invite listeners to sign up to participate.
