From the Andes to the Rockies: Climbing, Migration, and Representation Rossana Longo-Better
On this episode of Storytellers of Color, host Rossana Longo-Better speaks with climber, author, and community leader Felipe Proaño Iturralde about mountains, migration, identity, and representation in the outdoors.
Felipe began climbing in Ecuador in 2003, expanding across the Andes before taking on iconic routes in the United States, including El Capitan in Yosemite. Now based in Boulder, he serves as the Bilingual Senior Coordinator for the Junior Rangers Program and is the founder of the Andean Access Foundation, which works to create more inclusive pathways into outdoor spaces.
In this conversation, Felipe reflects on immigration, authorship, mentorship, and what it means to belong in a place where climbing is not just a sport but a way of life.
