Bloody Sunday Selma: “He was a target then, and he still is a target”: Wife of former SNCC Chair Imam Jamil Al-Amin Tells KGNU that Husband’s Failing Health Ignored in Prison

SELMA-Karima Al-Amin told an audience at the March 7, 2015 Bloody Sunday commemoration events in Selma that her husband Imam Jamil Al-Amin (formerly known as H. Rap Brown) was ignored in prison as his health deteriorated to now serious levels. The former chair of the Student Nonviolent Coordinating Committee (SNCC) and civil rights activist was sentenced in 2002 for the 2000 shooting of two sheriff’s deputies. He was sentenced to life without parole and was sent to maximum security Georgia State Prison. In August of 2007 he was transferred to a Federal transfer facility where he waited for a permanent assignment. Two months later he was moved to ADX Florence Supermax in Florence, Colorado. He is currently suffering from multiple myeloma and on July 18, 2014 he was transferred to Butner Federal Medical Center in North Carolina.
