“Flyin’ West” at John Hand Theater Celebrates History of Black Homesteaders in the American West

Firehouse Theatre Company and 5280 Artist Co-op have premiered “Flyin’ West” at the John Hand Theatre in Lowry. The show runs April 8 through May 7th. “Flyin’ West” is the story of the intrepid former slaves who used the homestead act as a chance to create a new life, founding towns like Nicodemus Kansas, and building a home in the American west. KGNU’s Veronica Straight-Lingo had a chance to speak with the Director, KGNU’s donnie betts, about it.
