It’s been almost 150 years since the massacre of Native Americans at Sand Creek Colorado. Colonel John Milton Chivington was the main person behind the atrocity, but this year a closer look has been taken at the role of John Evans. Earlier this year Northwestern University released a report on Evans role in the massacre. While that report found Evans somewhat culpable, many people felt that the report did not go far enough and it prompted protests by Native American students. As a result, faculty members at the University of Denver decided to take a closer look at John Evans, who was the founder of the University of Denver. Their report was released yesterday. We hear from Professor Alan Gilbert who was on the John Evans study committee.
