CU Students Stage Sit-In at Chancellor’s Office Demanding Divestment from Fossil Fuels

Members of the student group Fossil Free CU staged a sit in at Chancellor Phil De Stefano’s office at CU-Boulder on Thursday, as part of their call for the University to divest from fossil fuels.

P.D. Gantert, one of 7 students involved in the sit-in told KGNU that they delivered a letter to the Chancellor demanding that he take action on divestment.

“He’s not a voting member on the board but he does have the power to make a statement on behalf of the students who he represents and that is not something that he has come close to doing in the past. So by supporting action for climate and by supporting divestment, he would really change the tone of conversation in the board because the board can all too easily turn its back on students when we show up at their meetings several times a year.”
