Colorado has one of the highest suicide rates in the country. The suicide rate for people working in the agriculture industry is 3.5 times higher than other professionals nationally. In Colorado specifically, farmers and ranchers are dying at higher rates than the general population.
There’s many reasons why this reality exists, and there’s also some measures in the works to address them. Colorado Sun co-founder and reporter Jennifer Brown took a deep dive into this mental health crisis, and joined KGNU’s Jackie Sedley to talk about what she found.
