Community Home Rule in Colorado

The Boulder County Community Rights Network announced yesterday that they are working to get a ballot initiative to ask voters to approve a home rule charter for the county. This follows the Boulder County Commissioners decision on Saturday NOT to hold a special election on the home rule issue. Mary Smith with BCCRN says the ballot initiative process has never before been used in Colorado to establish Home Rule.

Dr. Tom Groover said establishing a Home Rule Charter would allow the county to have more authority in controlling activities such as fracking.

About 12,500 signatures would have to be collected to get the measure on the ballot.
