The seven states that use water from the Colorado River have been negotiating for the past couple of years over how to allocate that water. The river’s current operating guidelines expire next year, and the states are under pressure to scale back usage due to water shortages driven by climate change. On Tuesday (Nov. 11) the federal government needs to know whether the states have reached an agreement for the river’s use going forward.
