Colorado Poor People’s Campaign Hits the Road for Tour of Denver Area Highlighting Social Justice Issues

On Saturday April 6, the Colorado Poor People’s Campaign hit the road for a Denver metro area Emergency Truth & Poverty Bus Tour, highlighting a variety of social, racial and environmental justice issues. KGNU’s Rae Solomon went along to speak with the people involved and find out the issues they’re most concerned about.

The tour began at Pioneer Elementary School in Lafayette where members of East Boulder County United joined in to speak about fracking and its impact on the community.

They then headed to Aurora to gather at the ICE Processing Center in Aurora where they were joined by immigrant rights advocates.

“The Poor People’s Campaign: A National Call for Moral Revival is a nonpartisan, interfaith, intergenerational and intersectional movement that is uniting and mobilizing communities to fight the evils of systemic racism, poverty, the war economy, ecological devastation and the nation’s distorted morality. The Campaign takes up the unfinished work of the 1968 Poor People’s Campaign that was conceived by Rev. Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr., and it builds upon the state-focused organizing strategies of the recent Moral Mondays movement in North Carolina.”
