New Coalition Delivers Health Impact Studies to Fracking Task Force at Final Meeting

Coloradans Against Fracking

Groups involved in local control issues around the state are part of a new state-wide coalition that is calling on Governor Hickenlooper to ban fracking in Colorado. Coloradans Against Fracking held a press conference Tuesday in Denver to coincide with the final meeting of the oil and gas task force that is submitting recommendations for legislation to Governor Hickenlooper this week.

Karen Dike a retired registered nurse with the group Our Longmont said that the task force was never going to represent the interest of Coloradans concerned about the environmental and health impacts of fracking:

Mike Roque, Executive Director of the Colorado Progressive Coalition spoke about how low-income communities of color are affected by fracking, adding that there was no one representing those communities on the task force.

Community groups from the Western Slope were also represented, including Rev. Robert Toll who shared his experience with fracking when he lived in Parachute Colorado. Rev. Toll said he and many neighbors were diagnosed with various cancers that they believe were connected to the oil and gas activities in the area.
