Suicide is a leading cause of death for Colorado’s youth and young adults.
Many young people don’t have access to the education and proper tools to address depression or suicidal ideation in themselves or their friends.
That’s where Colie’s Closet comes in. The peer-education group goes into middle and high school classrooms in the Boulder Valley School District to teach students the warning signs and risk factors surrounding depression and suicide. They also help fundraise for students’ counseling and therapy.
KGNU’s Jackie Sedley spoke with two high school peer educators from Colie’s Closet – Sylvie Fox and Emmery Hagerman. Their advisor and Colie’s Closet executive director Kathy Valentine also joined them in the studio.
