The Longmont Community Forum will be hosting a conversation on the cliff effect, which occurs when a small increase in household income triggers a disproportionate loss of public assistance benefits, adding another challenge for families working towards self-sufficiency. As a result, people may be less motivated to work their way out of public assistance. Participants in the forum will hear stories from those affected by the cliff effect and begin to thing about ways to change this system.
KGNU’s Maeve Conran spoke with Jessica Austin, Program Coordinator of the Boulder County Circles Campaign.
