Civic Action Calendar: Week of April 16 KGNU News
We are renaming the resistance calendar to the civic action calendar, where each week we’ll share information about actions and events hosted by community-based organizations across the Front Range.
Thursday, April 16
At 3 pm, a citizen’s group organized by Erin Golightly is holding a Sewing Circle at the Frederick ICE facility in their ongoing effort to monitor and document ICE activity at one of several facilities being used to detain migrants across the state. That’s at 3770 Puritan Way in Frederick. More information at @eringolightly00 on Instagram.
Friday, April 17
At 5 pm, at the state capitol building, the Colorado Palestine Coalition is holding a Rally for Political Prisoners Day. That’s at the capitol, 200 E Colfax Ave. in Denver. More info at copalestine.co.
Saturday, April 18
At 11 am, at S Wadsworth and W Alameda in Lakewood, Indivisible hosts its weekly demonstration against the SAVE Act. The Safeguard American Voter Eligibility Act, also known as the SAVE Act or SAVE America Act, is a proposed United States law that would require documentary proof of United States citizenship to register to vote in federal elections. More information at indivisible’s page on mobilize.US.
Also on Saturday, April 18
Immigrant Partnership Team and SoBoCo will hold their weekly rally and visibility event at BI corporate headquarters in Gunbarrel. Organizers are calling for BI to end its contract with ICE. BI is a wholly owned subsidiary of private prison company GEO Group, and they manufacture ankle bracelets for detainees. That’s at 6265 Gunbarrel Ave. More info at mobilize.us/sobocoindivisible.
Sunday, April 19
At 11am, Indivisible will hold their weekly ICE Out for Good demonstration in Arvada. They invite you to stand against ICE and honor Alex Pretti, who had ties to the Arvada community. That’s at West 80th Ave. & Wadsworth Blvd. in Arvada. More info at mobilize.us/indivisible.
Monday, April 20
At 3 pm, Aurora Unidos CSO will have their “Kick Key Lime Air Out.” Organizers say they will drop a banner to call out Key Lime Air on their work flying ICE detainees around the US. They will meet at Belleview Station off I-25 to raise awareness of Key Lime’s involvement in facilitating deportation flights on behalf of ICE. More info at auroraunidosCSO.org.
Special thank you to Keith Gelderloos, Kenneth Nova, and Jack Armstrong. You can tell us about an event by emailing [email protected].
