The layoffs would reduce the newsroom by a third.

Jesse Paul is 25 years old and a political reporter. He currently covers the statehouse.

I’ve been here for four years and I’ve gone through at least four rounds of staffing reductions and this one is just by far the most painful. Seeing what this is going to do to the Denver Post, I just can’t even put into words how much less we’re going to be able to do.

Paul said there could be as few as 20 news reporters left to cover Colorado. Staff has until next week to voluntarily leave and many are already searching for other jobs. For NPR News I’m Bente Birkeland in Denver.
