Jared Polis is Colorado’s Next Governor – Blue Wave Across Colorado

Update January 2nd, 2019.

Jared Polis will be sworn into office as Governor on January 8th along with several other Democrats in state-wide offices including Jena Griswold as Secretary of State, Dave Young as State Treasurer and Phil Weiser as Attorney General.

 

Jared Polis (D) is the winner in the gubernatorial race making him the first openly gay governor elected in the US. Polis is also Colorado’s first Jewish governor.

Polis told the crowd at his victory celebration that they proved no barrier should stand in the way of pursuing dreams, and Colorado is an inclusive state that value every contribution regardless of someone’s sexual orientation or sexual identity.

Voters in Colorado have placed Democrats in control of all of the state’s executive offices.

In congressional races, Jason Crow, the Democratic challenger to Mike Coffman the five term Republican incumbent in District 6 – Crow won by nearly 10 points.  Crow told his supporters that they have started a new chapter in the story of our democracy with a new generation of leaders on the way Washington.

Joe Neguse will be the first black man to go to Congress from District 2, including Boulder.

Other Congressional incumbents won their races including Dianna DeGette (D), Ed Perlmutter (D), Scott Tipton (R), Greg Lamborn (R) and Ken Buck (R).

In state offices, Jena Griswold the Democratic candidate for Secretary of State beat Republican incumbent Wayne Williams, and Democrat Dave Young will be the state’s new treasurer.

The closest race for statewide executive offices has Democrat Phil Weiser winning over Republican George Brauchler.  While the race is separated by only 2 points various news organizations are saying that Weiser has won.

The Colorado Sun reports that it is the first time that Democrats have won every state executive office since 1948.

Democrats have also won control of the state senate by winning three more seats, and will hold a 19 to 16 majority.  Democrats will also have a comfortable majority in the state House of representatives.
