“Every species gets the opportunity to evolve, and queerness is ours. Queerness is the human ability to grow and to become.”

Lucinnia Majik with Rocky Mountain Equality said this last year on KGNU during our Pride panel discussion, and truth be told I’ve thought about it ever since.

For a lot of queer people, this magical evolution into full authenticity really takes off in adulthood. Out of your hometown, out of your childhood home where you may have lived with family who didn’t accept your loud and proud queer self.

But that’s not the experience for everyone. Some people, for one reason or another, are able to start their queer evolution earlier – even in a country that has people in power who are actively attempting to disregard and degrade their identities.

KGNU’s Jackie Sedley (they/them) was joined by two remarkable queer youth this morning in studio. Cal Lilly (they/them) and Callum Phan (they/them) are both interns with Rocky Mountain Equality.
