Boulder Food Rescue

The EPA estimates that In 2012 alone, more than 36 million tons of food waste was generated in the US with 95% of that ending up in landfills.

Food waste occurs at every step of the food chain, on the farm, in transit, at the grocery store and then in our homes. Boulder Food Rescue is celebrating its 3rd year and to date they have redirected 683,410 pounds of food away from landfills to hungry people in Boulder. They’re at the forefront of targeting food waste and are spearheading efforts for a countywide food audit. Boulder Food Rescue co-founder Hana Dansky says their model has now been replicated in cities like Denver, Fort Collins and Seattle.
