Boulder County’s Oil and Gas Moratorium

On Tuesday, June 28th, Boulder County Commissioners will hold a Public Hearing to confirm the current moratorium on Oil & Gas Development in Unincorporated Boulder County, which is set to expire in November. Kim Sanchez, Chief Planner with Boulder County, and Michelle Krezek, County Commissioners Deputy, inform listeners about the new developments surrounding the Colorado Supreme Court decision about gas and oil in Boulder County.

“Currently we have a moratorium in place until November 18th, 2016. This is a new six month moratorium that the Board of Boulder County Commissioners put in place after rescinding our moratorium that was in place until July 1st, 2018.”

In lieu of testimony being taken in person on June 28, testimony will be taken in the form of written comments submitted in advance. The County Commissioners’ Office took email comments submitted prior to 4 p.m. on Monday, June 28th.

On Monday June 27th, for the second time in a week, a group of people staged a sit in outside the Boulder County Commissioners offices ahead of the June 28th. Protestors say they are upset that the Commissioners won’t be taking oral testimony and are calling for a state of emergency over fracking to be declared. KGNU’s Jim Sawyer spoke with Andrew O’Connor and Andy Rose who were participating in Monday’s sit-in.
