Boulder City Council Final Election Results; Jeffco Public Schools District Makes Solidifies Guaranteed Admission of Student with 3.0 to CU Denver; Most DIA Flights Scheduled Despite FAA Guidance KGNU News
Boulder City Council Final Election Results
The Final results for Boulder City Council have come in, as of the last call of votes Wednesday evening, the four finalists seated on city council listed in order of highest vote count includes: Matt Benjamin, Mark Wallach, Nicole Speer, and newcomer Rob Kaplan. Mayor Pro Tem, Lauren Folkerts, lost her reelection bid after finishing sixth, behind candidate Jennifer Robbins.
The Boulder Reporting Lab said this election acted as a referendum for Boulder’s more progressive decision makers, showing voters are responding to promises of policies approaching the political center.
One last tally is scheduled for Nov. 13 to include overseas, military and cured ballots, which may slightly change the vote count but are not expected to alter the outcome.
Jeffco Public Schools District Makes Solidifies Guaranteed Admission of Student with 3.0 to CU Denver
Starting this fall, students from Jefferson County Public Schools district with a 3.0 GPA or higher have guaranteed admission to CU Denver.
On Wednesday, Jeffco school officials signed an agreement at Lakewood High School to create ‘CU Direct.’ An initiative to reduce stress and barriers to higher education like housing costs.
The guaranteed admission would also waive application fees and include sample financial aid packages.
This is the third agreement CU has signed with school districts across Colorado to increase access to higher education.
Eldora Sale Expected to Be Finalized This Month
Eldora is poised to finalize their deal to purchase the Eldora Ski Mountain within the month. That’s according to the Nederland based newspaper, The Mountain-Ear, who says a draft of the nearly $120 million purchase was presented to the board this past Wednesday. A final draft of the purchase decision is expected during a town meeting on Nov. 18.
Financial planning and budget is included in the draft, after an extensive due diligence review.
A two-year debt service is included as a financial buffer in case of a dip in revenue for the ski area.
Final approval from the Board of Trustees is expected on or before Dec. 2nd.
Most DIA Flights Scheduled Despite FAA Guidance
The Federal Aviation Administration, FAA, has ordered a 10 % reduction of air traffic this weekend as the government shutdown carries on into day 38. United Airlines canceled 4 % of their flights, which means around 20 roundtrip United flights will be canceled at DIA.
However, most flights from Denver International Airport remain scheduled. South West Airlines told the Denver Post that most flights remain scheduled at this time and the “vast majority” of customers will not be impacted. The Sun reports that while other airlines operating out of DIA are offering free flight changes and reduced cancellation fees, they are confident most flight plans will not be impacted.
Throughout the U.S.13,000 air traffic controllers are working without pay due to the government shutdown, as they’re considered essential government workers.
