John James Audubon is best known for his books of 435 life-size drawings of American birds. He came here in the early 1800s from France with a talent for drawing and an abiding interest in birds. He would spend several decades traveling this country into many remote corners back when it was mostly wilderness. Historian Richard Rhodes‘ newest book is “Hell and Good Company.”
