Author Amy Tan and “The Valley of Amazement”

This Chinese-American novelist, perhaps best known for her book, “Joy Luck Club,” takes readers in this book to Shanghai in an area where foreigners lived in the early 20th century. Spanning more than 40 years, her story moves from the lavish parlors of courtesans to the foggy mountains of a remote Chinese village.
