BMoCA Exhibit Features 1990s Student Movement At CU Boulder

A new exhibit at Boulder’s Museum of Contemporary Art explores and documents the 1994 movement that gave birth to what is now CU’s Ethnic Studies Department.

By Any Means We Deem Necessary: An Archival Walkthrough of the 1994 Ethnic Studies Protest at CU Boulder began as an honor’s thesis for Mateo Manuel Vela. His exhibit features the BIPOC groups that led the movement including the United Mexican American Student Equal Opportunity Program and Los Seis de Boulder.

KGNU’s Rossana Longo-Better spoke with Mateo Manuel Vela about the significance of this historical movement.
