The story revolves around a brother and sister, Ike and Lucy Marder, son and daughter of U.S. Senator Charlie Marder and Margaret Marder, a well-known zoologist. Ike is a U.S. Marine war hero, but AWOL when we meet him, while Lucy is an up and coming journalist at a Washington, DC tabloid.
