Transcript:
DJ Soul Rock: Yes, Fia, you are live on KGNU.
Fia: Yes, sir. What’s good?
DJ Soul Rock: We’ve been playing your music and talking about your upcoming show. We’re excited and honored to have you. Thank you for joining us. Where are you calling in from?
Fia: I just finished a gym session and I’m heading home.
DJ Soul Rock: Nice, I just came from the gym before the show as well.
Fia: I appreciate you having me.
DJ Soul Rock: It’s an honor. Will this be your first time in Colorado?
Fia: I’ve been to Colorado a few times. My first shows there were with The Green, and then I did another with Katchafire.
DJ Soul Rock: That’s amazing. For listeners who may just be discovering you, where did your musical journey begin? And can you share the inspiration behind your name and what you’re most looking forward to performing here?
Fia: Fia is my real name. It’s short for Faifaiese, a Samoan name. I couldn’t come up with a stage name, and my mom always told me to be proud of my name, so I went with Fia as my artist name.
My musical journey started in church. I grew up in a faith-based household, going every Sunday and throughout the week for choir practice. Being around music always brought me peace and joy. I’m grateful to my parents for surrounding me with good people and good energy. I feel blessed to be doing what I love.
DJ Soul Rock: You can really hear that soulfulness in your music. It makes sense that it started in the church. And I appreciate you shouting out your family. That’s important.
You’re coming through Saturday, March 7th at the Bluebird Theater as a headliner. What’s a song you’re most excited to perform?
Fia: Definitely “Love Me.” When I wrote it, I didn’t plan to release it. It was something I made for my wife. At the time, I had only released one single, “Come Around,” and my career started taking off quickly. I was traveling a lot and being away from her for long periods, which was difficult.
I wrote “Love Me” so she would have something to listen to while I was gone. When I got back, she and some friends encouraged me to release it. I never expected it to become what it is today, but it’s been a huge part of my career. Even though it came out in 2018, it still connects with people, and I’m grateful for that.
DJ Soul Rock: That’s the beauty of music—great songs with a strong message are timeless. We can feel that emotion in your music.
Fia: I appreciate that.
DJ Soul Rock: We’re excited for March 7th. One last question—do you have new music coming soon?
Fia: Yes, I’m planning to release a new single right after the tour. It’s another love song, and I’m excited for everyone to hear it.
DJ Soul Rock: We’re looking forward to it. If you want to hear it early, you might have to come to the show. We’ll be giving away tickets shortly.
Fia, thank you so much for your time.
Fia: I appreciate you.
DJ Soul Rock: It’s great to talk with an artist who truly lives their music. Much gratitude.
Fia: I appreciate you as well and everything you do. You help our music reach people around the world. It doesn’t go unnoticed. Thank you.
DJ Soul Rock: Much love. We’ll see you March 7th at the Bluebird.
Fia: Yes, sir.
DJ Soul Rock: Peace, love, and respect.
Fia: Likewise.
