How did humans go from self-sufficient primates to nonstop shoppers?

On this week’s Connections, KGNU’s Fiona Foster talks with Denver-based archeologist and author Dr. Chip Colwell about why humans love things and how this dependency on stuff has become dangerously out of control.  Colwell’s new book, “So Much Stuff, How Humans Discovered Tools, Invented Meaning, and Made More of Everything,” investigates how humans went from self-sufficient primates to nonstop shoppers. Foster and Colwell discuss the creation of tools, our ability to make meaning, plus how industrial-level production of stuff has created a problem.
