It’s The Economy

11/16/2023
Thursday: 6:00pm - 7:00pm
Host / DJ: Dave Ashton

Protests and demonstrations are erupting across the United States demanding a cease-fire in the US sponsored bombing of Gaza by Israel. Last week, 300 actions took place simultaneously across cities and towns nationwide. In Denver, supporters of Palestinian human rights rallied at the State Capitol on Thursday afternoon 11/9. Students left classes at the Auraria Campus and across Denver Public Schools to join their voices in protest. Fearing this public outcry, the CO State Capitol closed for business and sent their workers home, including elected officials. KGNU's Dave Ashton was on the scene, and came back with these voices for peace and Palestinian rights.

Closing the episode, Ashton speaks with Dave Zirin of The Nation Magazine and edgeofsports.com about his recent involvement in cease-fire protests led by Jewish Voices for Peace in Washington DC. Zirin was arrested with 300 other activists at the US Capitol on 10/18, with treatment by police that respected the dignity of those involved. However a candle-light vigil at the Democratic National Convention HQ on 11/15 was very different, with DC Police pepper-spraying and brutalizing the peaceful protestors exercising their right to political speech.
