Songcraft:
Songwriters are the architects of sonic emotion, crafting universes in three-minute masterpieces. They wield metaphors like paintbrushes, infuse stories with heartbeats, and turn silence into a canvas of resonance. In the grand amphitheater of musical creation, songwriters stand as the virtuoso architects, building bridges between hearts and harmonies, reminding us that life’s cadence is most vividly felt when painted with the ink of their genius. With the Songcraft Series, Christopher Morse and Ian Steele will bring local songwriters to Roots Music Project to share their craft and stories.
This month features:
Wrenn Van:
Having been gigging around the Front Range of Colorado for more than seven years, Wrenn Van is now embarking on much larger projects before she leaves for Nashville in the fall of 2024. Wrenn is a singer-songwriter from Lafayette, Colorado. She has recently formed a new band, The Wrenn Van Band, with some of Colorado’s premier musicians. Her performances include an exciting mixture of soulful originals with influences from folk, funk, pop and jazz, and eclectic covers; all of which are brought to life and given new vibes by her signature vocals that that have been turning heads for years.
Her resumé ranges from commercial jingles to live performances. Some of the notable venues she has played include The Fox and Aggie Theaters, Arise Music Festival, Boulder International Film Festival, Boulder Creek Festival, and Fort Collins Music Experiment (FoCoMX), as well as upcoming performances at eTown and Dillon Amphitheater.

Monica Marie Labonte:
From a wide-eyed tike delicately pressing the keys of her mother’s upright piano to a seasoned artist taking various stages across the country, Monica Marie LaBonte has always been guided by song.
With the sharp ability to craft tracks that speak to the fragility and wonder of life, the crystalline vocalist continues to attract listeners with her stirring blend of folk and country. At times, her lyrics come across as wise whisperings from a dear friend. At others, they hold all the vulnerability and transparency of raw confessions. A keen observer, LaBonte bears witness to life’s magic and heartache and artfully weaves the intricacies of the human condition into tunes that possess undeniable intimacy, grace and grit.

Melody:
My name is Melody and I am a 17 year old singer/songwriter performing in the Front Range of Colorado. I have been recording and playing live music since 2018. My two professionally recorded studio albums are out on all media platforms. I also have extensive experience with live performances. My acts include solo performance, with vocals and piano/guitar, as a duo or trio with other instruments, or as a full band. Some of my performances have included sharing the stage with Grammy nominated Brigette Purdy, the Cass Clayton Band, as well as many local acts. I thrive on playing live shows in any situation and am able to capture the attention of audiences wherever I perform. The positive crowd response I receive is truly satisfying. My repertoire includes over 3 hours of music, spanning many decades and crossing different genres. I also enjoy playing my own original music as an addition to the cover songs in my sets. My musical style is adaptable, from soft acoustic to a full rocking band. I am eager to get out and entertain audiences anywhere.
