Songcraft: Songwriter Showcase with Harper Powell, Into The Nothing, Jeremy Dion, Sarah Minto-Sparks @ Roots Music Project

February 13 @ 7:00 pm - 9:30 pm MST

Songwriter Christopher Morse and Producer Ian Steele team up to bring you Songcraft: Songwriter Showcase. A deep dive with storytellers.

This project is funded in part by a grant from the Boulder Arts Commission, an agency of the Boulder City Council.

Songcraft:

Songwriters are the architects of sonic emotion, crafting universes in three-minute masterpieces. They wield metaphors like paintbrushes, infuse stories with heartbeats, and turn silence into a canvas of resonance. In the grand amphitheater of musical creation, songwriters stand as the virtuoso architects, building bridges between hearts and harmonies, reminding us that life’s cadence is most vividly felt when painted with the ink of their genius. With the Songcraft Series, Christopher Morse and Ian Steele will bring local songwriters to Roots Music Project to share their craft and stories.

This month features:

Harper Powell:

Harper Powell is a law student at the University of Colorado, Boulder and is a native of the Salida, Colorado area. At age 9, Harper began performing at open mic nights at a local café and has gone on to perform at a number of venues, including the Vilar Performing Arts Center, eTown Hall, the Laughing Goat, Bluegrass on the Arkansas, the Salida SteamPlant, and Swallow Hill Music. With a voice and songwriting style that draws from such artists as Sarah Jarosz, Gillian Welch, and Martha Scanlan, Harper combines her skills on the guitar, mandolin, and banjo to create her own unique sound. She has recorded two CDs and has music available for streaming on Spotify.

Into The Nothing:

We’re a bunch of musical freaks drawn together to make sounds that excite us – sounds we want to hear that we are not hearing. Think high energy psychedelic rock mixed with graceful melodies, ambient textures, epic riffs and haunting guitar solos. Take a trip with us Into the Nothing.
Jeremy Dion:

Award-winning singer-songwriter Jeremy Dion is a licensed therapist by day who offers toe-tapping folk therapy by night. With soaring harmonies and technical riffs reminiscent of Noah Kahan or John Mayer, Jeremy has brought his musical optimism to stages ranging from the Boulder Theater to Edinburgh’s famed Fringe Festival. So whether you’re feeling up, down or just want a night on the town, Jeremy’s heart-opening words will leave you feeling connected, hopeful, and humming a tune — no couch required.

Sarah Minto-Sparks:

Sarah Minto-Sparks, a psychedelic graduate student by day, has spent the past year performing at open mics around Boulder. Inspired by artists like Susan Tedeschi and Crosby, Stills, and Nash, Minto focuses on storytelling in her original acoustic music and covers a wide range of classic rock and folk music.
