Symposium: On Tuesday, June 4, 2024, a public event on Ice Melt / Snowmelt and Their Impact on Mountain Regions in Colorado and Switzerland will be organized at the University of Colorado, Boulder, from 9:15 AM to 1:15 PM (MDT).
This event will bring together Swiss and U.S. experts who will share their insights on topics related to ice melt and snowmelt. The different stakeholders, mountain guides, researchers, and NGO representatives will bring in their different perspectives to have an informed discussion on the effects of climate change. The event will kick off with firsthand testimonials of the International Federation of the Mountain Guides Associations (IFMGA) president and vice president. The insights of their field experience will be enriched by the novel findings of researchers from the Center for Snow and Avalanche Studies, as well as the Institute of Arctic and Alpine Research at the University of Colorado, Boulder, (INSTAAR). The Director of the UNESCO World Heritage Site Swiss Alps Jungfrau-Aletsch will bring an experience of an affected area in Switzerland. This program will include the consequences of ice melt and snow melt and will conclude with predictions of future developments linked to this climate change related phenomenon.
This event series was organized by the Consulate General of Switzerland in San Francisco in partnership with the International Federation of Mountain Guides Associations (IFMGA) and supported by the Swiss Polar Institute (SPI)and the Embassy of Switzerland in the United States of America.
