Chariots & Charioteers play an eclectic and organic take on indie-pop that is influenced by soul, jazz, and modern folk. The Denver-based quartet uses a quick-changing roster of instruments to write songs that make processing unusual emotions fun. Imagine if Regina Spektor and Lake Street Dive met in a Dave Matthews Band tribute band, and you’ve got something like it.
The band’s blend of styles is informed by the members’ varied backgrounds, from musical theater to professional film scoring to jazz and classical college training. With their bafflingly wide range of instruments (including unusual ones like melodica punching above their weight), you’ll hear inventive, melody-heavy instrumental arrangements that go beyond simple chord strumming and command your ears’ attention. Lyrically, Chariots & Charioteers’ songs illuminate the cracks and crevices of 21st century life – the unexpected moments and feelings we all find hard to put into words, like un-numbing from your phone, convincing yourself you’re not hard to love, awe at the natural world, or finding yourself at home for the first time. It all comes with a healthy dose of hope, wit, and persistent joy for refreshing and relatable lyrics that will stick with you.
About Caleb Schwing
Caleb Schwing is a Singer-Songwriter Hailing from the mountain city of Denver, Colorado. After spending ten years as a working songwriter/producer in Los Angeles, he’s decided to move back to his home city and contribute to its growing music community.
With comparisons to Leif Vollebekk, Hiss Golden Messenger, and The Paper Kites, Caleb and his band, made up of good ol’ buddies and relationships of a sexual nature will have you frenching the person to your left by the end of the show. His combination of cracked acoustic guitars and ethereal pedal steel goes together like a fancy cocktail at a dive bar that makes you want to call your ex and apologize.
