16th Anniversary Summer 1940s Ball

June 15 @ 4:00 pm - June 16 @ 12:30 am MDT

— Celebrate America’s heroes, patriotism, fashion, celebrities and music at the 16th Anniversary Summer 1940s Ball at Boulder Municipal Airport, 3327 Airport Road, Boulder, Colorado, beginning at 4 p.m., Saturday, June 15.

Plans for this event include live music by such favored performers as the Glenn Miller Orchestra, Tammi Savoy—performing with Denver’s own Joe Smith and the Spicy Pickles, and Hollywood’s Satin Dollz. Other plans call for re-enactors paying tribute to such legends as Frank Sinatra, Bob Hope, Betty Grable, Lucille Ball and the Andrews Sisters. Local favorites such as the Hot Tomatoes and the Kalama Polynesian Dancers are slated to perform as well.

There will be plenty for visitors to do and enjoy. They can dance under the stars and around World War II planes and vehicles, visit a replica of Rick’s Café American with movie set props and lights, play roulette, try their hand with “on air” vintage broadcasting, and participate in a conga line and an interactive scavenger hunt. Visitors can see a display of vintage aircraft such as a TBM Avenger, a P-51 Mustang and a DC-3/C-47, along with a vintage 1940s/1950s auto show! For sale will be vintage and vintage inspired clothing.

Ten event attendees will be selected to compete on-stage for the 1940s Authentic Attire Contest! If you go, will you win?
The night will top off in grand style with an authentic 1940s style radio announcement announcing the end of the war with colossal confetti drop! “Get ready to be enchanted by the airport’s breathtaking summer beauty, step into another world and another time and embark on an epic adventure,” said Khyentse George, the director of the Ball.
The best part? Attendees will be celebrating this cherished era for a great cause! The 1940s Ball donates a portion of ticket sales to non-profits which honor America’s veterans such as the Commemorative Air Force and the Rocky Mountain Honor Flight The 1940s Ball has donated over $113,000 to these charities and many others.
Tickets, which range from $79 to $260, photos, costume inspiration, and more information are available online at www.1940sball.org.
A non-profit organization which produces two annual events: The 1940s WWII Era Ball and the 1940s White Christmas Ball, the 1940s Ball aims to create community and cultural connections which cross generations, genres, and borders through celebrating the music, dance and culture of the 1940s and 1950s. The organization aims to provide quality performances and educational opportunities which will not just inspire those who already love “The Greatest Generation” but also introduce others to that era.
“When you buy a ticket to the Ball, you’re not only going to have a great night with our community learning about and celebrating the 1940s, but you’re also helping to support our WWII veteran heroes and the preservation of American history,” George noted.
