Maeve Conran hired as managing editor of Rocky Mountain Community Radio

Rocky Mountain Community Radio (RMCR) has announced the hiring of Maeve Conran as the network's first managing editor, a new position that will be housed at Aspen Public Radio. Conran will report to Aspen Public Radio news director Brent Gardner-Smith. She begins her new role on July 7.

Conran brings fifteen years of broadcast news experience as a radio news director, freelance radio podcast producer, and TV program director. She has extensive experience collaborating with radio journalists in her professional career, having most recently served as the news director at KGNU Radio in Boulder and Denver, and as the project coordinator for RMCR's award-winning collaborative news project highlighting the issues facing communities as they transition from reliance on Fossil Fuels to green energy. Originally from Ireland, her work has been aired internationally on Radio France, RTE (Ireland's national broadcaster); nationally on NPR; and regionally on RMCR member stations. Her radio and podcast work has been recognized by the Society of Professional Journalists (Top of the Rockies) and PRNDI (Public Radio News Directors Inc.).

As RMCR's new managing editor, Conran will collaborate with journalists and news producers across the RMCR network on stories and public affairs programs, increasing the networks capacity to cover, produce, and distribute regional news.

KGNU is proud to be a founding member of RMCR and its predecessor, the High Country Community Radio Coalition. RMCR is a coalition of 18 non-commercial radio stations in Colorado, New Mexico, Utah, and Wyoming, who share content and work collaboratively to produce in-depth features on regional issues. The managing editor position is funded in part by a three-year grant from the Colorado Media Project and RMCR Member Stations.

Participating Rocky Mountain Community Radio stations include:

KAFM Grand Junction
KAJX Aspen
KBUT Crested Butte
KDNK Carbondale
KDUR Durango
KGNU Boulder/Denver

KHOL Jackson Hole, WY
KLZR Westcliffe
KOTO Telluride
KRFC Fort Collins
KSJD Cortez
KSJE Farmington, NM
KSUT Ignacio
KUNC Greeley
KUVO Denver

"RMCR is very excited to achieve one of our long term goals of expanding the impact of our collaboration. We're pleased to have Maeve join the team to help strengthen journalism for communities in our region," said Kelley Dole, President of RMCR.

"Many of the public radio stations that are part of Rocky Mountain Community Radio are doing great journalism, and Conran's role will be to identify the good work being done, and shape it for distribution back out to RMCR stations," Gardner-Smith said. "She'll be working in service to all of the RMCR stations, but we're delighted to be able to work closely with her as she learns how best to do this new job."
