The GNU Prom
|
KGNU Community Radio aims to bring high school students and the community at large together for a video and live broadcast dance event.
As the nation and the world work to adjust to life in the world of social distancing, high school seniors are reeling from the realization that they will miss out on rites of passage like commencement ceremonies and senior prom. On Saturday, May 2, 2020 KGNU Community Radio will host a video dance event for students of front range school districts from 6-9pm via Zoom Meetings and broadcast live on 88.5 FM & 1390 AM.
The video guest list will comprise of 50 senior couples who will dress in formal attire and be treated to live music provided by a two-time recipient of Westword magazines Best of Denver award, Erin Stereo and will be chaperoned by Denver Program Manager and resident DJ, Deeprawk Dave Ashton. The entire event, complete with the virtual crowning of prom king and queen will be broadcast live on KGNU radio.
Students, use your official school district email address to RSVP to this special event and nominate your fellow students for Prom Royalty at kgnu.org. Others can join in on the fun by listening to the live broadcast of this event or streaming online at kgnu.org.
"I went to as many school dances during my time as a student in DPS as my parents would allow, but the institution of Prom cast a shadow of anticipation over them all. COVID 19 cant infect the Prom vision. KGNU Community Radio is inspired to celebrate the class of 2020, their accomplishments and bright futures, by providing one of Denvers top spinners DJ Erin Stereo and a special virtual video formal dance on Saturday May 2nd 6-9pm."
