Wildearth Guardians

Wolves were eradicated from the American West by the mid-1900s at the behest of the livestock industry. Science now tells us that wolves are critical to the health of the landscapes that they inhabit. WildEarth Guardians uses a variety of tools, including policy advocacy, public education and litigation to advance the cause of weaving wolves back into the heart of the American West. Last April, Congress eliminated federal protection for wolves in the Northern Rocky Mountains. Idaho and Montana immediately set hunting seasons on this endangered animal. The result is that 410 wolves killed by sport hunters this winter alone. However less than 1,300 wolves live in those two states. Now Hollywood is inciting terror instead of instilling awe for this beautiful and charismatic creature. Wendy Keefover explains to host Nikki Kayser about the dangers of the new anti-wolf film called “The Grey”.

Boulder City Boards and Commissions

It is that time of year to consider serving your local government. Host Lucas Poglaze chats with Dianne Marshall about serving on the boards and commissions of Boulder City government. They are looking for a diverse group of citizens to advise the committee work and guide policy decisions. To apply for a board, you must be 18 years or older, currently live within the City of Boulder limits for at least a year and be registered to vote. Annual applications begin today.

Youth Corps

Boulder County received a grant to hire more youth this summer. Host Nikki Kayser chats with some of the youth who worked in the Button Rock area last summer. They enjoyed being part of a team of peers who took on soil conservation and wildfire prevention. Many come back year after year to get skills for future jobs and earn some summer money while spending time outdoors. Judy Wolfe schedule youth with Boulder County Youth Corps.

Wheels For Disabled Veterans

Jack Levinson chats with host Nikki Kayser about his organization that matched scooters and electric wheelchairs for disabled veterans that need mobility. Wheels For Disabled Veterans refurbishes donated wheels , sometimes simply replacing the batteries, and gets them to vets who need them. Right now he has more equipment than contacts for those in need. Jack has got a shipping company donating fright space, a local furniture store donating storage space, and a battery manufacture donating batteries.
