Community Cycles
Tuesday, December 13th, 2011They are a nonprofit organization of bicycle enthusiasts whose mission is to educate and advocate for the safe use of bicycles as an affordable, viable, and sustainable means of transportation and personal enjoyment within our community. Community Cycles offers recycled bikes and teaches bicycle repair, maintenance, and operation. This year is their 6th annual Kid’s Holiday Bike Giveaway. Thursday, December 8th, 2011“We, the citizens of Boulder County, in order to create a more perfect food system, establish justice, ensure domestic tranquility, provide for the common need, promote the general welfare, and secure the blessings of a food system free from the influences of corporate power, and ensure public land free from genetic and chemical contamination and destructive practices, for ourselves and our future, have established ‘The Citizen’s Cropland Policy’ as the guiding principles for the management of our County Open Space Agricultural Lands.”
That is the new cropland policy that citizens of GMKnow want to define Boulder County’s Open Space management. There was not enough public input about the allowance of genetically modified seeds on public lands, according to Mary Shaffer Smith and Scott Smith who want to change that. They describe the formation and motivation of the GMKnow activists group to host Nikki Kayser.
Sound Circle

Members of Sound Circle bring their rich life experience to the ensemble: mothers, daughters, grandmothers, writers, artists, activists, educators, therapists (psychotherapy, massage therapy, occupational therapy, speech therapy, physical therapy, and music therapy), voice coaches, social worker, senior wellness coordinator, vision quest guide, hospice nurse, shamanic practitioner, sign language interpreter, editor, computer programmer, actress, orchestral percussionist, clown, and television producer. Host Nikki Kayser chats with director Sue Coffee about the many-0layered metaphors of Roadkill and our connection to the importance of nature during the winter solstice.
Don’t Frack Longmont
Tuesday, December 6th, 2011Fracking is a type of gas drilling that injects millions of gallons of hydraulic fluids – a mixture of chemicals, water and sand – into a well to create pressure that cracks open rock underground, releasing natural gas. This process can deplete and contaminate local water, damage the environment and threaten public health. The toxic results of hydraulic fracturing, or natural gas fracking have been documented by Land And Water Watch, including the contamination of drinking water, cattle quarantines, sheep deaths, and dangerous explosions in states across the country. This drilling practice is beginning in Longmont, so concerned citizens have formed the group Don’t Frack Longmont.
Climate Change
Monday, December 5th, 2011At Horizons Middle School in Boulder science students took on the topic of climate change and produced skits to demonstrate what they learned. We begin the series of broadcasts with an open discussion about what three of the students learned so far. We will continue with more discussions, skits and a song.
Denver Children’s Advocacy Center
Thursday, December 1st, 2011They are the hub for services needed by child abuse victims and their families. Denver Children’s Advocacy Center has representatives from many disciplines who work together in the best interests of the children to provide an immediate response and ongoing support for recovery from the trauma of abuse or violence.
