Veteran’s Helping Veterans Now

Thursday, November 10th, 2011

Founded in 2007 Veterans Helping Veterans Now was started when a decorated combat Marine (who served in Khe Sanh during the Tet Offensive) brought together a group of veterans, family members, veteran service providers and community members. The goal was to empower veterans who had been marginalized by society to utilize their skills and experience to help other veterans. All programs are initiated by requests from veterans or their family members.  VHVnow has initiated many successful programs, provided many educational forums, and opened a drop-in ,non-alcoholic facility. VHVnow’s background is rooted in veteran volunteers providing services to other veterans. There will always be an adherence to programs that reflect the real unmet needs of veterans and their families in our communities and a commitment to utilize veteran volunteers in addressing those unmet needs. VHVnow’s programs are expected to grow and, sometimes, change to reflect current unmet needs of veterans and family members at any given time. Host Wes Maynard gets the details from Lenina Olivas, an Americorp Vista Volunteer.

Dinosaur Ridge

Thursday, November 3rd, 2011

Clare Marshall provides details about Dinosaur Ridge to Nikki Kayser in a short interview…

Dinosaur Ridge is a unique preservation of the Earth’s history. The well preserved archaeological sight is full of information about the lives of dinosaurs. Many footprint sites have a lower density of tracks, which do not lend detailed information about the dinosaurs. Others have too many tracks, which trample the evidence of individual dinosaur activities. Dinosaur Ridge has over three hundred tracks from at least thirty-seven different animals -twenty-two ornithopods and fifteen theropods, probably formed in a two week period between neap tides, according to world renowned tidal scientist, Nora Noffke. These fossils are placed in such a manner that suppositions and calculations about the dinosaur activities can be readily made. They preserve the paleontologic, geologic and resources on Dinosaur Ridge, Tricerotops Trail and the outlier sites in the Morrison-Golden Fossil Area National Natural Landmark and the educate the public about these resources.
