One Book One Denver

Niece Washington chats with host Nikki Kayser about the three finalists : The Art of Racing in the Rain by Garth Stein; Hotel on the Corner of Bitter and Sweet by Jamie Ford and The Immortal Life of Henrietta Lacks by Rebecca Skloot.

The Potter’s House of Denver

The Potter’s House of Denver is a non-denominational church in Southeast Denver. Recently established on March 1, 2010 under the Pastorate of Dr. Chris Hill, The Potter’s House of Denver is one of Colorado’s largest and most ethnically diverse congregations.  It has a fairly equal balance between men and women, married and singles, young and old. Host Kenny Skinner chats with Dr. Chris Hill.

Community Cycles

June is walk and bike month and Community Cycles is gearing up. They are a group of bicycle enthusiasts whose mission is to educate and advocate for the safe use of bicycles as an affordable, viable and sustainable means of transportation and personal enjoyment within our community. They have re-cycled bikes to sell. They take donated bikes and parts, they are taking over parking spaces a for an afternoon, showing a film festival and feeding bikers at 84 breakfast stations. Sue Prant chats about their outreach and advocacy activities with host Nikki Kayser.

Pi’i lani Hawaiian Civic Club of Colorado

The vision of the Pi’i lani Hawaiian Civic Club of Colorado is to weave community spirit by promoting aloha and educating the public about Hawaiian culture and values in the Rocky Mountain Region. They sponsor such activities as lei-making, ‘olelo (language) classes, Hawaiian quilting, and guest speakers on Hawaiian topics. They also function as a community resources for Hawaiian history, culture and the arts. For  young people we are a clearing house for educational scholarship opportunities. As a chapter of the association of Hawaiian Civic Clubs, they distribute information on legislation to further the causes of the Hawaiian people. Host Nikki Kayser chats with Lynnette Asperin.

Wildlands Restoration Volunteers

A community spirit of shared responsibility for the ecological stewardship and restoration of public and protected lands gets volunteers  to sign on to all sorts of projects. WRV does this by helping land managers meet their goals to steward the land despite shrinking budgets with the help of a large, trained volunteer base.  In 2011 WRV is coordinating 67 projects from the mountains to the plains, and holding a dozen trainings to supply the leaders of these projects with the necessary skills. Boulder County AIDS Project

The Mission of Boulder County AIDS Project is twofold: to provide support, advocacy and education to those in our community who are infected with or affected by the Human Immunodeficiency Virus  and to serve as an outreach and information center to prevent further transmission of HIV and the resulting Acquired Immune Deficiency Syndrome (AIDS).
