For 25 years, Community Shares of Colorado has raised money to support local, small non-profits. They are the largest such organization in the US, with over one hundred members and thousands of donors. Many give through their workplace in small amounts deducted from their paycheck- a very efficient way to give. Donors designate which non-profit is near and dear to their hearts in their community. The recipients are very diverse as they have grown over the years. Host Nikki Kayser chats with CEO Alyssa Kopf about their unique character and success.

Monday, May 30th, 2011Tricia Cominsky chats with host Nikki Kayser about the Max Fund, a No-Kill Animal Shelter and Adoption Center, established in 1988. Animals find their way to Max Fund by many roads, some more tragic than others, some simply victims of circumstance. Whatever road they take, Max Fund strives to perform all basic care for animals committed to its stewardship, including medical needs, rehabilitation, training, socialization and then finding them good homes with responsible pet parents. The organization provides crucial services including orthopedic surgery and other veterinary care for injured dogs and cats. They have placed over twenty-five thousand animals in new homes and saved thousands with the spay and neuter program.
Food Family Farming Foundation
Friday, May 27th, 2011Ann Cooper, the Renegade Lunch Lady of the Boulder Valley School District, chat with host Nikki Kayser about herFood Family Farming Foundation that is spreading salad bars across the country. She partnered with Whole Foods in raising $1.4 million to put more than five hundred and fifty salad bars into schools, and is currently a driving force in Michele Obama’s Let’s Move Salad Bars to Schools campaign. Ann is a national leader in the campaign to improve children’s health by empowering schools to serve nutritious, fresh food to all students, instead of today’s typically over-processed, unhealthy options. The Food Family Farming Foundation, operates a unique web-based portal that educates school administrators, workers, teachers and parents about how to make good food available for all kids, from providing recipes to financial tools for schools with dwindling budgets.
