Attention Homes
Wednesday, November 10th, 2010Attention Homes is committed to the youth of this community, to changing lives, and to reuniting families in difficult times. Thier community-based programs offer teens street outreach, day drop-in services, shelter and residential care. These services provide teens psychosocial development through behavioral change. The goal is to help our at-risk residents become healthy productive members of our community. In thier 45-year history, they have provided treatment and safety to approximately 6,000 adolescents, ages 12 to 18. Attention Homes is excited to open its new Runaway & Homeless Youth program created to help the estimated 150-250 kids living on the streets of Boulder and Broomfield Counties transition to long-term housing and/or family reunification. This program includes street outreach, day drop-in and overnight shelter services. Host Rachel Sapin gets the details.

Hungry For Change

He chats with host Nikki Kayser about the value in one vet listening to the concerns and challenges of another vet. Re-entry into civilian life can be lonely at best. Increasingly, more service people return with brain trauma disorders that only another vet can understand as they look for housing, a job, and a social life. Hungry for Change is an annual project with local restaurants to give a portion of their proceeds to veterans’ services on Veteran’s Day.

Almost 3,000 facilities are visited each year in the Boulder/Denver area with 2,200 youth involved.

Boulder Blind Cafe
Monday, November 1st, 2010Blind Cafes are springs up in the dark on both coasts. The idea for the Boulder Blind Cafe came to Rosh, Brian Rocheleau, while visiting Iceland. He and his band, One Eye Glass Broken, will entertain guests as they dine in the dark and hear from blind waiter Gerry Leari as he describes his world without sight. It is a chance for seeing people to get a different perspective and indulge other senses together in the dark. It gives the blind community a chance to get together. Everyone raises money for Boulder Guide Dog Puppy Raisers, a group of volunteers who raise and train guide dogs for a year.
