Who is amy? is dedicated to raising public awareness and advancing research for the life-threatening and terminal blood disease amyloidosis. Host Nikki Kayser spoke Executive Director Becca Barry and her father, Mike Cooper for whom she founded the organization. Amyloidosis is a debilitating and fatal disease. Unhealthy proteins are deposited in the organs and tissues, creating irreversible damage. The walls of the heart and the tissues of the lungs are often attacked first. Amyloidosis affects the body’s organs, so sufferers have trouble breathing, walking short distances, experience chest pain, and have all around poor health. Because there is no cure, chemotherapy and stem cell transplant are often used to treat the disease.  These leave permanent side effects such as drug dependency, nerve damage, and heart failure.

The Office of Dispute Resolution makes available dispute resolution programs and services within the Colorado Judicial Branch.  Host Beth Bartel finds out about their sixty-plus contract mediators and neutrals,and the mediation and other services they provide across the state. They also provides information about dispute resolution in Colorado and nationally, and coordinates training for judicial officers and court staff .

The Educate! Experience equips high school students across Uganda to create social enterprises – financially sustainable, innovative, and effective initiatives that address the greatest challenges faced by communities.  Educate! Scholars go through a two-year leadership curriculum, receive weekly mentoring, and a life-long alumni network to assist them in the process of creating a social enterprise and ultimately becoming socially responsible leaders.

In 2010, Wildflower Women’s Foundation was created to inspire and inform women as they transition through divorce and widowhood. On average, after divorce, women experience a 73% reduction in their financial position and a 17% decrease in their income, and yet, they’re frequently the primary care providers for children. At Wildflower, we offer financial, legal, and educational advocacy, as well as guidance and information, to address the immediate and long-term needs of women and their families as they go through challenging times. Violence against women is one of the least recognized human rights abuses. Around the world, as many as one in every three women has been beaten, coerced into sex, or abused is some other way. While some games today may promote the exact behaviors. Population Media Center is trying to change, games have the potential to have a very positive impact on gender issues by profoundly shifting beliefs, stereotypes, and attitudes. In Breakaway, the player encounters real-life situations that resonate with a teen’s experience such as peer pressure, competition, collaboration, teamwork, bullying, and negative gender stereotypes. Breakaway gives players choices that allow them to make decisions, face consequences, reflect, and practice behaviors in a game and story format. Katie Elmore describes the new game with new rules to host Nikki Kayser.

Barker Dam in Nederland celebrates its 100th anniversary. President of the Board of Trustees, Bob Yates, discussed the significance of the technology developed in 1910 with host Nikki Kayser. Boulder History Museum will soon have new digs and a larger offering.
