In Boulder County, over 549 individuals have been diagnosed with HIV/AIDS. The goal of the Boulder County Public Health (BCPH) HIV/STI Outreach Program is to prevent the spread of HIV and other sexually transmitted infections to at-risk populations. BCPH provides rapid HIV antibody testing to any member of the public that requests it. The test used is the Uni-Gold Recombigen HIV antibody test. It is a ten-minute finger-stick test that is 99.8% accurate when taken after three months from potential exposure. Testing is provided confidentially or anonymously. Carol Helwig at Boulder County Public Health spoke with KGNU’s Forrest Young-Taft.
