OpEPA is a Colombian non-profit organization that reconnects children and youth with the Earth so that they act in an environmentally sustainable manner. Through this reconnection, children and youth may become agents in reducing environmental degradation and promoting a more sustainable generation of decision makers. Their educational experiences integrate ecological, social, economic, and cultural aspects, producing attitudes and actions directed to preserve the environment. OpEPA aims to promote a better understanding and enjoyment of the cultural, ethnic and natural diversity of our world, and to create an awareness of the necessity of preserving this diversity. KGNU’s Elena Klaver spoke with Mateo.

HIV Testing

In Boulder County, over 549 individuals have been diagnosed with HIV/AIDS. The goal of the Boulder County Public Health (BCPH) HIV/STI Outreach Program is to prevent the spread of HIV and other sexually transmitted infections to at-risk populations. BCPH provides rapid HIV antibody testing to any member of the public that requests it. The test used is the Uni-Gold Recombigen HIV antibody test. It is a ten-minute finger-stick test that is 99.8% accurate when taken after three months from potential exposure. Testing is provided confidentially or anonymously. Carol Helwig at Boulder County Public Health spoke with KGNU’s Forrest Young-Taft.

Once upon a time in Boulder, Colorado

Circa April 2006, a handful of young bike enthusiasts and advocates happened upon each other almost by accident. A few of folks knew each other casually and some of us had less than successful prior attempts at starting bike organizations, but each one has a huge passion for bikes and lots o’ big ideas. They all had different plans for bringing the magic of a bicycle to our community and making bikes affordable to everyone in our community. Refugees International advocates for lifesaving assistance and protection for displaced people and promotes solutions to displacement crises. The Rocky Mountain Children’s Law Center was founded in 1981 to address the lack of quality legal representation for abused and neglected children in Colorado. Without effective legal advocacy, these children were drifting in foster care for years on end, not receiving the physical and mental health care they needed, and often subjected to dangerous living conditions.
