Mi Casa was founded in 1976 by eight mothers who understood that education and employment were vital for women to achieve personal and economic success. Historically, Mi Casa has targeted primarily Latinas, but as they grew, their target population also expanded to include the entire family. For 34 years, Mi Casa has been committed to its mission of advancing economic success and helping Latino and low-income families trade poverty for lasting economic stability. They have invited State Senator Brandon Schaffer, County Commissioner Cindy Domenico and Boulder County Healthy Kids Initiative to hear the testimonials of people who have needed healthcare assistance. She and student Emily Gold discuss their recent trip to the town of San Marcos in the highlands of Guatemala. Women Work Together to raise the socio-economic status of women and girlsĀ by learning to work effectively in groups, thereby accelerate positive changes in their lives and in their communities.
