Energy Sweeps
Friday, April 9th, 2010In its fifth year, the Neighborhood Energy Sweeps bring energy efficiency education and free measures to neighborhoods throughout Boulder County. Dave Hatchimonji and Amy Hollander chat with host Nikki Kayser about the volunteer teams that will knock on over 1500 doors this year. Volunteers with an interest in energy conservation and helping others are eagerly sought.
Bias Incident Hotline
Thursday, April 8th, 2010The Bias Incident Hotline Project is a volunteer-run, community project that provides phone support, resources, and advocacy to those who have experienced or witnessed bias motivated incidents. They strive to reduce systemic oppression and bias in our community. Through anonymous reporting we promote awareness, provide education and influence policy change.
FBI reported in 2006 that hate crimes rose 8% which targeted victims or property as a result of bias against race, religion, sexual orientation, ethnic or national origin, or physical or mental disability. Unfortunately, hate crimes are just the tip of the iceberg with the majority of incidents unreported or unable to be prosecuted as a hate crime or crime of any sort; bias incidents occur everyday and cause harm to the mental, emotional, spiritual and physical well-being of an individual.
Restoring The Soul

Cottonwood Institute
Tuesday, April 6th, 2010Cottonwood Institute is excited to launch a new course called the Cesar Chavez Organic Gardening Project. Students will camp out under the stars for 3 nights and 4 days at a local organic farm in the Colorado Front Range. They will explore our new surroundings, practice nature awareness activities, and practice essential camping and wilderness survival skills to connect to the land and to learn how to comfortably and competently explore the outdoors. Students will also practice leadership and team building skills, explore diverse leadership styles, and learn more about the life and legacy of Cesar Chavez. Ford Church , executive director, also explains about Three Trees and a River Project to host Nikki Kayser.
Corporate Accountablility International
Monday, April 5th, 2010Think Outside the Bottle is a national campaign to get governors and mayors to stop spending public funds to buy bottled water. Instead, they promote investment in the public’s tap water infrastructure. It helps save the environment from wasteful plastic bottles and it helps the economy with jobs that build for our future. Rachel Shiozaki is a field organizer who wants to Stop Corporate Abuse. See The Story of Bottled Water, an animated film that tells how the bottled water industry got us to pay for our own free water.
Institute for Social and Environmental Transition
Thursday, April 1st, 2010President of ISET, Marcus Moench, chats with KGNU’s co- director of news and public affairs, Joel Edelstein about the Institute for Social and Environmental Transition’s work on climate and water related issues in the Himalayas. They have several guests in town from Nepal and India to participate in a roundtable discussion at the Boulder Public Library auditorium on April 7th from 6:30 to 8:00.
