Wednesday, June 24th, 2009For the Denver-based Flobots, activism and art have always been intertwined. Since its inception, the band has encouraged fans to engage in voter registration and other community efforts. In 2008, when Flobots achieved artistic and commercial success with the politically charged hit song “Handlebars,” they decided to take their activism to a national stage. They build communities of musicians and music fans who are inspired to create positive change in their relationships, themselves and their world. Fight with Tools is their social networking site. Executive Director Laura Bond describes to host Nikki Kayser the street teams who develop leadership skills and perform service projects in their communities.
Salus World
Tuesday, June 23rd, 2009Director of Field Operations, Gwen Vogel describes the importance of mental health expertise aid such as SalusWorld provides in South Africa, Thailand and Burma. They build the capacity of local organizations on the ground already doing work in their home countries by training and dispatching degreed mental health professionals to train local, onsite individuals and teams in establishing and managing sustainable psychosocial programs. They recognize that many want to serve but few have the time, so they place people onsite for eight week periods and follow-up with remote communication.

They improve student achievement in science, technology and math, prevent student dropout, provide opportunities for students of low-income families, support creative classroom projects and honor teachers who make a difference. Las artes populares en Las Américas recoge diferentes manifestaciones de las artes tradicionales de América del Norte, América Central, América del Sur y el Caribe. La exposición se divide en ocho temas principales: vivienda y mobiliario, instrumentos de trabajo, alfarería, cestería, magia y religión, vestimenta y adorno corporal, instrumentos musicales y recreación. A través de esta exposición se capta la estrecha relación existente entre las culturas de los países hermanos de América.

A Woman’s Work

A small group of women in Longmont got together in 2003 to reach out and create a systems that pays forward.

Thursday, June 4th, 2009Learn how to spawn mushrooms in your backyard or the nearby forest at a workshop held in Rollinsville with Dr. Brook Kelly. Fellow mycologists and instructors Wendy Monroe and Todd Jones describe the course to host Nikki Kayser. Find out which species are best at this altitude. Learn different inoculation techniques such as rope, plug and bunker. All this spawning helps the ecosystem of the forest. This workshop is part of the re-tooling series at Transition Boulder.
