People Engaged in Raising Leaders

Perla Delgado of  P.E.R.L. is part of Boulder County Community Action Programs. She explains their training program designed to increase involvement among people of color on boards and commissions in Boulder County. Participants gain the skills and tools necessary to better understand the process, structure, and make-up of boards so that they take leadership positions and participate authentically.

Natural Transitions educates and supports families who choose to care for their own dead, helping them to make choices that are more meaningful, affordable, and environmentally conscious. They lobby for citizens to know their options which might include a home funeral, green burial methods, transporting and caring for the body themselves, or unique ceremonies designed by friends and family. Executive Director Karen Van Vuuren discusses some of the creative ways loved ones reclaim the sacred tradition.



Greenhouse Scholars

Greenhouse Scholars go through an intensive program with professional liaisons, mentors and peers to become the next generation of community leaders. Aron Palma, University of Denver student,  is researching the drop-out rate at North High School. He explains what it is like to get support and to give that same support as a mentor to other disadvantaged kid.  Palma describes some of the challenges he and others have overcome to finish school.  Andra Pool, COO, tells host Nikki Kayser about some of the students entering the program.
