On a two acre organic farm in Boulder, 11 to 19 year olds are paid to teach, plan, tend the fields and sell produce.  They donate a portion of what is harvested to those in need in the local community. They learn to care for and protect the environment, learn how to operate a small business, and take part in a variety of activities which create positive change for the community, the environment, and youth themselves. They work their way up to become field managers, like Ben Turner. He walks the Growing Gardens with host Nikki Kayser as he points out with pride the various projects- composting, bee keeping, preparing plants and produce for sale and chats with fellow youth workers. One teaches  ten year olds about the source of the food they eat, the nutritional value of vegetables and the fundamentals of organic gardening practices in the Children’s Peace Garden. Kids experience activities and games designed to encourage peace, respect, environmental stewardship, and friendship.
