Dot Org Show

CASA volunteers become a much needed support for the child who may be living in an out-of-home placement, and who is overwhelmed by the complexities of the child welfare system.CASAs help the guardians ad litem attorney to provide the Court with information about the best interests of the child. The CASA sees the child regularly, usually weekly. He or she also talks with everyone involved in the life of the child. A CASA works closely with the Boulder County Department of Social Service caseworker who has been assigned to the case. CASAs monitor the parents’ treatment plan and may also transport the children to and from visits with their parents, which they may also supervise or observe. Perhaps the CASA’s most important contribution is his or her regular and close contact with the child. KGNU’s Nikki Kayser finds out about some of the youth in the program.
